Membership

Covenant Membership

At Lake Highlands Baptist Church, we believe that church membership is not just a formality. It is a covenant, a meaningful promise made before God and with one another. By covenanting together with a local body of believers, we enter more deeply into the covenant we already share in Christ as members of His universal body. As part of a local congregation, we are a visible expression of the communion we enjoy with believers across all times and places.

Covenant membership means committing to follow Jesus together. We promise to care for and encourage one another, to pray for and support one another, and to hold one another accountable in love. This covenant shapes our life as a spiritual family, helping us grow in Christ and live out our shared mission of making disciples. It reminds us that we belong to one another because we all belong to Christ.

This covenant relationship also gives definition and strength to our local congregation. By identifying who is part of this local church family, we are better able to shepherd one another, practice faithful church governance, extend pastoral care, and maintain meaningful accountability. Members receive the support and encouragement of a spiritual family, intentional care from pastors and other leaders, and the joy of participating in God’s mission. In turn, members take on the responsibility of engaging fully in the life and ministry of the church.

Eligibility for Membership

Covenant membership at LHBC is open to all baptized Christians who have made a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ and who can affirm the foundational beliefs of the Christian faith along with our Church Covenant.

Expectations for Members

Covenant members of LHBC are expected to:

  • Participate regularly in Sunday morning worship and members’ meetings;

  • Live in obedience to the Word of God;

  • Serve the needs of others within the church, both formally and informally; and

  • Give financially to support the work and mission of the church.

Members are also encouraged to:

  • Be actively involved in a small group;

  • Participate in Wednesday night meals and classes; and

  • Take part in special services and events throughout the Christian year.

These practices help us cultivate a rhythm of worship, fellowship, and service that draws us deeper into community and discipleship.

Becoming a Member

Our membership process is designed to help you learn more about LHBC and ensure that this is the right place for you. The process typically takes about two months and involves the following steps:

  1. Attend LHBC

    We encourage you to worship with us regularly and get to know the members of our church.

  2. Participate in a Membership 101 Class

    This class is a great opportunity to learn more about us and what it means to be a committed member of LHBC.

  3.  Submit an Application for Church Membership

    This step affirms your commitment to our shared beliefs and values as a church. You will need to review our statement and faith and church covenant before affirming.

  4. Interview with a Pastor

    This conversation is a chance for you to share your story as a follower of Jesus, review our expectations for members, and let us know how we can support you.

  5. Be Nominated for Membership

    After your interview, the pastor will bring your membership request to the other pastors for nomination for membership.

  6. Join the Church

    At our next member meeting, the congregation will joyfully welcome you into our church through a vote of affirmation.
